Create Transparent POD Artwork with the New Image Generator in FLAI

FLAI's new OpenAI generation option creates PNG artwork with a transparent background. Here is how to move from a focused design brief to a result you can inspect, refine, and prepare for your intended product.

Create Transparent POD Artwork with the New Image Generator in FLAI

Start with artwork rather than a product mockup

A design that looks convincing on a rendered T-shirt is not necessarily a usable artwork file. Product mockups can contain fabric, lighting, shadows, and a background that should not be part of the print. When your goal is a reusable graphic, the brief should ask for the artwork itself.

The new OpenAI generation option in FLAI is configured to produce transparent PNG images. It belongs to the image-generation workflow inside Flying. It is separate from the connected AI Assistant feature used for product research, keyword analysis, and account actions.

1. Write a specific design brief

Describe the subject, visual style, composition, and any required wording. State whether the artwork should contain text and whether you want a standalone graphic. A focused brief gives you clearer criteria for reviewing the result.

Create a standalone illustration of a compact camper van beneath pine trees, with bold clean shapes and a limited teal-and-cream palette. Keep the composition centered, with no text, no T-shirt mockup, and no surrounding scenery beyond the illustration.

This is a suggested prompt, not a claim that a particular result has already been generated. If your design needs lettering, specify the exact words and inspect every character afterward. A visually appealing image can still contain spelling or layout errors.

2. Generate through the OpenAI option in FLAI

Open Flying's AI Design Editor and choose the available OpenAI image-generation option. Enter the brief, select the supported generation settings, and review the token estimate shown in the interface before starting the task. This article concerns generation; it does not imply that the same model supports every editing action offered elsewhere in FLAI.

The current integration generates transparent PNG output at 896 × 1088 pixels. That is the starting image size, not a statement that the file meets every platform's upload requirements. When requesting several images, review the completed results and the task status rather than assuming that the entire batch succeeded.

3. Inspect transparency and edge quality

Check the actual file against light and dark backgrounds. A transparent canvas should let the background show through around the artwork. White outlines, semi-transparent fringes, unwanted shadows, and detached details can become more visible on a different garment color.

  • Inspect the edges at a useful zoom level, particularly around fine lines and small lettering.
  • Check that empty areas are genuinely transparent rather than a drawn checkerboard or a white rectangle.
  • Review the composition without a mockup to see whether the artwork stands on its own.
  • Keep the original result before applying further changes.

4. Prepare for the intended product

Use the image size and requirements of your target product to decide what preparation is needed. FLAI includes image tools such as upscaling and background removal where available, but you should review their results too. Enlarging an image does not automatically repair lettering, remove unwanted objects, or prove that its details will print well.

Preview the design at its intended placement. Consider whether thin strokes, small gaps, and subtle contrast remain readable. Save the chosen result to your design workflow or download it for further preparation, then check the destination platform's current file requirements before uploading.

5. Keep a reusable creative record

Retain the prompt and the result you selected so later variations have a clear starting point. Change one important part of the brief at a time: the subject, composition, palette, or wording. That makes it easier to identify which change helped.

Turn the camper-van brief into transparent artwork

Use the article's camper-van prompt in FLAI's OpenAI generation option. Inspect the transparent PNG on light and dark backgrounds, then review its dimensions for the product you have in mind.
